Hi all,

I have been having problems using the hack provided by Kamiwa to make more files than just divx play on the DSM330.

One of the problems is that I don't know whether my system is working fine or whether there is a problem with the files I'm trying to play. (All my files play in Windows Media Player but am I asking too much of the Connected server?)

I thought it would be really good if someone could provide a link to whole set of files that should play in the DSM330 with the Kamiwa hack. This would then enable me to test whether my system is playing all the file types that are possible.
I would then know that I'm wasting my time with any other files that don't play.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Some things to do when changing .config files

Make sure your .config file is for the server version you are using. Each new server requires a specific .config file.

After changing the .config file:

Kill all DivXConnected... processes in task manager.

Re-start the server.

Re-scan the folders with the files.

Thanks...

Hi,
Thanks for the response. When I messed around with this previously I never killed all the connected programs in the task manager. But this was weeks ago, so am I correct in thinking that your comments above will all have taken place automatically by now (I turn the PC off every night)?

Or by not killing the connected programs, will some of my alterations have been overwritten (without my knowledge) back to their orginal state?

It would be nice if I had some video in different file formats that i know should be able to play.
Microsoft have a page with a whole load of test video MPG, MPEG, etc. Should these play?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316992

One last question, I have a load of enormous .AVI family video recorded on my mini DV camcorder. This also will not play. Should it be able to play?
(I have tried to convert it to divx but the quality is poor when things move quickly, I think it is some kind of intelacing problem that i don't know how to solve)

Thanks.

Re-booting the PC (turning off) does kill the processes

Re-booting the PC (turning off) does kill the processes but it will not re-scan folders when restarted.

DivX (AVI), XviD, MKV, WMV, MPEG-1, and MJPEG files should play fine. MPEG-2, DV, FLV and other files are not supported without a hack.

Since AVI is a container that can many different video types, you can not assume it will play just because it is .avi.

You might try a more feature rich encode program such as HandBrake to see if you get any better quality.
