Examining the Codec

You should be able to right click on your media file and see what codecs it contains.

If that doesn't work, try installing a media player like VLC, then go to 'tools' and look at the codecs.

I'm getting digital sound on my DSM-330. I haven't actually spent a lot of time determining exactly what the quality of it is, but on my receiver, there's a little display that indicates which channels are active, and that looks right.

DTS is not supported by the DSM 330, although DivX people have said that you'll be able to play DTS if you have a DTS codec on your computer, then it'll be transcoded to something your DSM-330 can play (but not DTS I take it.) That might require 1.5 though.
