I tried using connected without going via a router. Basically what I wanted to do was take my laptop and connected box away with me for the weekend ( without the router ), use ethernet from the divx connected box to the laptop then connect the box to the TV via scart.

When I tried this I kept getting DHCP error. I changed the ip address and I still got an error.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Internet Connection Sharing

You could try enabling Windows' Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) via ethernet or WiFi, which would allow the DSM-330 to be allocated an IP address - if you're not sure how to set up ICS, try Windows' help (Start > Help and Support) or Google.

Another possibility would be to switch your WiFi adapter to "Ad-Hoc" mode and see if the DSM-330 picks it up.

Do you mean you ran a wire

Do you mean you ran a wire directly from the laptop to the connected box with no hub or router in between? Did you use a crossover cable? Part of the function of a switch/hub/router is to pair the TX to the RX. You can buy a special cable that physically matches TX to RX. A normal ethernet cable is 'straight through.'

I wonder how wireless laptop<=>dsm330 would work with 'peer to peer?'
