A few (more) questions about DTS...
I have a small collection of .MKV files (H.264, DTS audio) that don’t play correctly (same audio issues as discussed at length on this forum). I patiently check this site every day, without fail, to see if the final 1.5 release is available. I would really like to see these files in action on my DSM-330, my favourite and proudest piece of gadgetry. After hanging on for so long I am forced to ask the following questions:
1. Could someone at DivX please give me a more concrete date for the final release?
2. Will this release provide support for DTS audio?
3. If DTS will not be supported (which will be a huge shame), could someone at DivX organise drag-and-drop support for MKV files in DivX Converter so that I can convert my existing DTS files to AAC/AC3 – and yes, I have tried Handbrake but wasn’t satisfied with the results!
I work in IT and am regarded by friends and colleagues as a bit of a gadget freak. At our office party I was asked what the best gadget I ever bought was. With the exception of Sky+, I told them it was the DSM-330, hands down. Whilst it really is outstanding for streaming run-of-the-mill .avi’s I can’t help but consider the notion that the future of the device must lie in supporting HD formats, both video AND audio. DivX has always been synonymous with “cutting edge”, constantly pushing the boundaries and advancing compression technologies. To stay ahead of the game popular HD codec support should be of utmost importance, whilst the “Plugins” and “Services” – gimmicky extras, not reasons to buy the device – should be demoted in priority and further developed once the device is completely HD compliant.
Please be assured; this post is in no way a complaint or even a gripe. I am overwhelmed with how good DivX Connected is and desperately want it to be, well, perfect. I will continue to check this site every day in the hope that, fingers crossed, I won’t be disappointed.
