finally
well, it seems that divx has, after 18 months, finally managed to get the sorting of songs correct. This is quite a feat, deserving of our admiration....
Expect another big update next year, where they will be adding an albumart solution as well.
I've all but given up on divx connected, but this has really made the difference......
sigh,
There's so much potential in connected, but i feel i'm going to just give up, and buy an asus eee box or something.
Please make me reconsider with something great, like actual new divxplus capable connected devices.
What is holding you guy's back?
You cannot possibly be satisfied with current development yourselves.
To improve general sorting performance, if a folder has more than 30 songs in it, it will not sort by track order.
Also, the album field for all tracks must be the same.
Your right there are more than 30 songs in the folder.
Is this limit really neccessary? I have lots of folders with more than 30 tracks in (usually my wife's musicals which must be played in the correct order).
I think that as mp3 based music develops this 30 track limit problem will probably get worse as things will be less based around the capacity of an old CD.
However, I have noticed that the Jukebox plugin does play them in the correct order. I will resport to this plugin for now, however, it would be nice if this could be corrected or the limit be increased to 100 tracks for example. Sorting songs alphbetically vs track order shouldn't be particularly processor hungry!?!
Thanks.
Greenman.
PS Any idea when the thumbnails for folders suggestion will be implemented?
It seems these days, DivX largely only ever addresses technical issues. Whilst it would be great to get some feedback re the product roadmap, I guess this is simply wishful thinking from a user perspective. For the company, its understandable that they may wish to keep this in-house from both a competitive perspective and in order to avoid making commitments to the Connected user base (as they did somewhat in the past).
Its a shame as such a two way process makes users feel part of the product's development, builds brand loyalty and with feedback, usually leads to a better overall product.
Ah Shwarz, I thought we had lost you there!
It's understandable for those who have been around since the product's inception to get frustrated with the development slowdown over the last while. We are all committed connected users who have invested time, effort and money into this fantastic product and obviously want it to do well. As outlined in the article I posted, perhaps DivX's difficulties in finding CE partners for the product (along with the economic climate) have led management to scale back on development/resources.
Finally good to see song sorting resolved, in addition to a feature I've been pushing for since 2007, the recently added menu. H264/MKV native playback is also welcome. As you said, if we could only get album or video art (folder.jpg etc) integration we'd be onto a winner.
hi fkm.
no, i'm still around. Haven't lost me yet......
Maybe my post was a bit harsh, but i wanted to tickle divx for a response.
Actually i'm delighted that the sort is now somewhat fixed.
I just think it's a shame that this is the only thing corrected.
But considering this fix, i'm hopefull others will be taken care of aswell.
Seeing that the playback of divxplus on connected is not going to be so good. (hardware related, so will never work how we all want it to) This would be a good time to introduce a device which can play h264 natively.
difficulty with the connected concept is that it requires a pc running, and ce manufactures are not taking any risks at the moment. perhaps philips should get a free connected license for a few years to jumpstart development. they are currently introducing some 'connected' music players, so video is a nice addition. same goes for cisco/linksys.
We need more devices out there if it is ever going to ammount to something. Bundle it with divxplus at a discount, and maybe it can turn around.
BTW, it was a good article. Wish Divx would be more open about it's plans for future developments.
...sorry if this is taking thread off topic? but how did you get the songs into original album track sort order (or are you manually doing each album one at a time still?) - I've just upgraded to the DivX Connected(tm) 1.5.0 Build: 73 Server from Build 59 but still not able to mass sort and all my MP3s are meticiously tagged in ID3v2 - Any help would be VERY welcome! :)
If you choose "Sort by -> Title" and you have one album in a folder with good track info, it will sort by track, but if you have lots of albums in one folder, it will sort alphabetically.
If you do have lots of albums in one folder, but they all have good meta-data, you can then choose "Sort by -> Artist" and you will be able to navigate to the album view and then see the albums in track order.
I check this site every day in hopes that something new and improved will be presented. I love the Connected platform. Please honor our commitment and continue to develop this product.

The new track order feature doesn't quite work properly for me.
Some albums are shown in the correct track order while others are not.
I've looked in detail at the meta data but cannot see any obvious problems. All tracks have the same album name and all have track data.
Any ideas?
I'm getting it in the neck from my wife who complains that Les Miserables really has to be in the track order!
