Sound issues with DivX Mobile on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional on a HTC Thouch HD
Hi.
I just got myself a HTC Touch HD, and ofcourse I went right on the web and downloaded Divx Mobile.
However, the videoes played on DivX Mobile has very bad sound. The same videoes played on a LG KU990 has very good sound.
The OS on my phone is Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional.
Thx for all help
MoFjel.
On the LG phone, the sound is perfect. So I would say the video encoding is of good quality.
The sound on my HTC Touch HD is almost a metallic sound. I remember in the early days when we listened to Mp3 in 22Khz or lower.
The videos I have tryed to play has OK video quality and performance. My only problem is the sound.
I have encoded the video in 320x240 I think. Using Clone DvD Mobile.
And the cpu in the HTC is Qualcomm® MSM 7201A™ 528 MHz
With 288 MB RAM
So the sound is best described like low quality, metallic sound where especially the S sound sounds almost noisy.
Thanks for letting us know. You are not the first person to complain about the sound quality. It seems there are some people who expect it to sound better however most people do not seem to notice. Unfortunately, this means improvements are not a priority.
There are other media players available for Windows Mobile phones that can play most DivX videos. You may want to try some alternatives and see if you can find something that sounds better to your ears. We might get some time to work on the sound but it is unlikely that DMP will get an improved audio decoder any time soon.

Can you describe the difference in sound between the two devices?
The LG KU990 is a DivX Certified device that uses hardware acceleration to play DivX video/sound. The LG can play larger, higher quality videos than the HTC Touch. DivX Mobile Player for the Touch is completely software and is severly limited by the speed of the processor in the phone. The Touch should play DivX Mobile sized videos fairly well but anything larger than that might stutter.
