I've posted on this topic before and quite frankly did'nt get much help, so this is my last attemp.I love the DSM330 and what it potentionally could be, but even more than ever I am getting playback issues, especially with no sound. Most of these are with files that used to play fine and in fact still do on streaming media players I own, that would be considered inferior media streamers to the DSM 330 (pinnacle showcenter 200 and DSM3200. Like I've said in previous posts Im no techno wizard (far from it) and most the answers to my questions on previous threads I did'nt understand. I also have the kamiwa all-in-one pack installed, this always seems to be the first suggestion. Is it really that hard to get all the codecs into one install pack for divx connected? (thats a serious question by the way, I really dont know) I really am starting to think of alternative machines like popcorn or dvico - I just want to be able to turn the machine on and play files with it, I'm really not interested or do I know anything about the technical side. Please, if you can offer me some advice please do, but only in laymans terms otherwise it will go straight over my head.

****I even find posting on this forum confusing, how come a reply post goes to the top of the thread??****

The DSM-330 actually has

The DSM-330 actually has only a few codecs. If you follow Kamiwa's hack, the DSM-330 seems to support more file types but what's really happening is that your computer is converting all those files (on-the-fly) into DivX MPEG4-ASP with MP3 audio which is just about all the DSM-330 can handle.

This is what I cant comprehend. The files that wont play on my 330 will play on my pc and will play on older less modern video streamers like my showcenter and dsm320.I find it all very confusing, probably because I dont have a clue about codecs and such. Here is a link to a previous post I put up with file information :

http://labs.divx.com/node/7870

As per usual I got no help, I was asked about a hack but the guy may as well have asked me the meaning of life,I dont know any of this stuff.I just want to plug and play, but I'm thinking I got the wrong machine for this!

Simple Solution...

If I was you I would simply re-encode all the files you want to play on the DSM-330. Yes, it can be time-consuming (depending on how powerful your PC is), but once completed all your files SHOULD play without a hitch.

The quickest way for non-technicals to do this is to use the DivX Converter, which comes with a free trial and is bundled with the DivX package installer. You probably have the shortcut on your desktop. This is probably the most straight forward encoder on the planet; just drag and drop your files onto the app and voila! Your DivX encoded file is ready soon after with no codec knowledge required. For a simple guide read http://labs.divx.com/node/6428. It doesn’t get any easier than this!

Try encoding one of your files and see if it works on the DSM-330 before you do the rest. To begin with I would use the default “Home Theater” profile, which produces an .avi. If that works you could then try the “DivX Plus HD” profile, which will produce a better quality video as it uses the latest H.264 codec.

Set aside some time to experiment and do a bit of reading about codecs and encoding. It’s not as complicated as you might think. Before long you’ll be demuxing, converting and remuxing with the best of ‘em!

Good luck!

Other codecs

What do you mean by "more than ever"? Have you recently changed the software you are using to encode your videos? Are you using DivX software? (Dr. DivX, Author or Converter?)

You might want to simply convert all your incompatible videos into ASP/MP3 using DivX Converter on the "Home Theater" setting. Do it once for all your videos and that will eliminate the on-the-fly conversion that happens on Connected Server.

This is exactly why I'm

This is exactly why I'm starting to move away from connected, this thread hads been up over 24 hours with 90 views but not one answer. Now I know there are plenty of people who could answer my questions in a couple of minutes, but as usual the support just is'nt there.I think that the more savvy people that visit the forum assume that people here have a great knowledge of all things divx and codec related, but its just not so.some people just buy these things over the counter beleiving that they will work like a charm.

Hi Kingaa, What audio

Hi Kingaa,

What audio streams are you trying to play? Are they DTS etc?

Well, you did the right thing in installing Kamiwa's hack to get imcreased codec support. However, have you installed his latest all in one package(think its March 09) and used his DCDShowPlaybackPlugin.config file to replace the original one in the Connected bin folder? Make sure all the applications in the package are installed and check if the file plays no problem with DivX7 player and Connected PC.
