I had the same issue as everyone else out of the box
I fixed this by using this program
http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/
Convert your already existing Divx/avi files into avi format using the program and bingo problem solved remeber to use a lower resolution
I was getting the file not supported thing as well but
The thing is if you keep trying to play the file eventually it will actually play (Go figure)
I have no issues with the phone playing movies after conversion
and the file not support comes up 1 in 20 attempts on playing the file
The current issue i face is im in N.Z and they dont sell the TV out cable here (WTF)
So i am waiting for one from the U.K
Getting started
You'll need:
* A DivX Account
* DivX Player
* A DivX Certified or DivX Ultra Certified device
1. Create a DivX Account
First, you'll need to log in or create a DivX Account via the DivX Player. To create an account, open DivX Player, go to the Tools menu, select User Account and then click the Create Account button. You must use a valid email address or your account won't be created.
2. Register your DivX Certified device
Next, you'll need to retrieve the 8 character DivX VOD registration code from your device. Typically, you'll find it in your device's setup menu. Once you find it, write it down to use later.
Go back to DivX Player on your computer. In the Tools menu, choose Device Manager and then click to Register Device. Select your device brand from the drop-down menu and enter the 8 character code you wrote down before (and name your device if you want to). Once you click Next, you'll be prompted to either burn an activation file or save it to your computer.
If you have a DivX Certified DVD player or other device with a disc drive, burn the activation file to a disc and then play it in your device.
If you have a DivX Certified mobile phone or other device with no disc drive (e.g. it plays movies from a hard drive or memory card), save the activation file to your local computer and transfer it to your device (via memory card slot, USB or Bluetooth) to play.
After you play the activation video, a DivX logo will appear to confirm that your device has been successfully registered. Now you can buy DivX VOD movies to play on your DivX Certified product!
I have followed the required procedure, but when its time to download the activation video, the connection to the server will always have problem. What else could I do to complete my activation [lease.
I've recently purchased a LG Arena and the TV-Out cable. Connecting to the TV is fine, you can see all the menus on the tv etc. Also I have copied over divx movies and the play fine on the phone.
However, as soon as I plug the tv-out cable in to the phone it says that the file is not supported. But as soon as you take the cable out it plays on the phone.
As mentioned before you can get the menus and everything on the tv screen absolutly fine. I am now very confused.
Could anyone shed light on this.
Thanks
Ian
hi
I had a problem about a week and a half ago viewing divx movies on my arena. I converted it with Divx converter using the "mobile" setting and then saved it to my external memory that I use with the phone. I just kept on getting error whenever I tried to play the movie - today I go in and it played it first time, no problems, it looks fantastic. I did try and save it to the phone memory when I first did it but actually had a huge problem doing that so though it'd be easier to change the phone to mass storage and put it on the external - don't know if that would help anyone or not?
Not sure why the change but I'm going to try putting more movies on so will report back if it's still a problem.
Got my KM900arena a few days ago. I tried uploading AVI, Divx and Xvid and all vids failed to play on the phone. Since then I have been uploading in 3GP format but resolution limited to 352. The resolution limit isn't a problem if the bitrate of the video is high enough. I have been encoding the vids in 3gp at 352 res with bit rate increased to 700 (default = 512 on the "highest" settings on IMtoo 3gp converter software). At such high bitrates the videos can be increased to Arena's full screen size with no degradation.
I have also just converted a video using the supplied Divx encoder and that too produces good results although there is no option to increase the bitrate before encoding...
So, the bottom line is you can use 3gp or DivX if you are prepared to re-encode. I have to re-encode anyway since all my porn videos are HD 1080.
I feel really misled by the claimed DivX support of the Arena which is massively inferior to the Viewty which was launched 18 months ago.
Why should I have to convert existing DivX files to DivX? I didn't have to with the Viewty.
Also converter is crashing sometimes. So not only inconvenient but also does not always work.
Very, very annoying. I will be wary of other items claiming DivX compatibility now. Even when DivX has certified them. A great shame.
I have been having the same problems with DivX on my LG KM900. There's some sort of rights thing going on. However, I opened my avi files with VirtualDub (freeware) and set video to direct stream copy and audio to direct stream copy in VirtualDub. Then saved as avi. Once I had a new avi that VirtualDub created from the old one I ran it through DivX Converter and sent it to my phone. It worked fine and hasn't failed me yet
Hope this helps
I've seen other reports of problems with the LG Arena. Please give me some time to investigate.
Update 16-Apr-2009:
I confirmed that the DivX VOD activation video does not play but that is not due to a problem with the LG Arena. The VOD system is currently serving an activation file that is too large for the Arena. The activation file is 720x480. It should be much smaller (176x144) for phones. This is something we can fix here. However DivX VOD registration is not required for the LG Arena to play unprotected DivX videos.
I have successfully played videos that were created using DivX Converter on the "Mobile" profile setting. However, I have found other videos which oddly report "DRM: rights expired" even though they are not DRM protected files. I'm still investigating this issue.
Update 19-Apr-2009:
The Arena definitely limits the maximum resolution for DivX playback. Despite the fact that Arena has a 800x480 pixel display, the DivX playback is limited to 320x240 pixels. That means it will only play videos that strictly conform to the DivX Mobile profile. Technically that is all it is required to support in order to receive the "DivX Mobile" certification but many DivX phones (like Secret and Viewty) will play larger files.
The Arena cannot play the VOD activation video (mentioned above) due to the resolution constraint. However, VOD registration is not required and will change the Arena's ability to play unprotected DivX files. VOD registration is only required to play videos purchased from the DivX VOD service which currently does not offer any videos for the Arena. However, I confirmed that the Arena does properly activate even though it displays the "not supported" error message while trying to play the activation video. You can't see the video but you can complete the VOD registration successfully by merely attempting to play the video.
thank you it a shame the phone is great about the drm rights expired would a update of the built in player work to stop that
or would it need a full update of the whole firmware,
its just that divx rocks and if the phone advertises divx phone like renoir is then people new to divx wont think its as good seeing as a rencoding of a movie file is needed to play
and yes all arena phone owners have this trouble
I would like to make comment about this issue also. I recieved my LG Arena just before Easter 2009, and tried to register it as a device with Divx. It will not play the registration video file either. Fortunately I saw the LG rep when purchasing the phone, so posted the problem to them. Their tech guys seem to think that there is a software problem with my phone, but the problems reported here are identical so this is obviously not the case.
I am not happy about this situation, and wonder whether either LG or Divx are producing a patch to fix this problem. Surely, this should be formally published on their website, so that all users are aware of what is going on - after all this is not a patch to enhance a device's features; it is a patch to make the basic device features work.
I am waiting for LG to get back to me. I will post any solutions if I recieve them, as I am sure everyone is as frustrated as me. All I can say is that I wish I bought a cheaper handset, if this problem can not be rectified shortly.
its very bad but so are lg in support i have contacted them myself but just got asked to phone which i did the adviser didnt have a clue not one though pal was 32fps lol
i have tried all formats done by the phone divx,h264,3pg i think thats it and nothing worked got drm problems or not supported
every arena owner has this issue even with the lastest f/w 10j
i have had 2 lg phones now and there crap thinking i might start a website for owners to protest to them about fixing all the problems lol
Just reading for any updates. Its kind of reassuring that others are having the same problem, but unfortunate in that it does not resolve the problem. I have read threads stating that some people have resolved the issue, but by just following the Divx registration process - which is not working for me (or previous bloggers). My LG contact was suggesting about flashing the phone memory, and wondered whether the ORANGE software installed on the phone was causing problems. That made me wonder whether T-mobile users (or sim free users) are not having this problem. If anyone has any comments on this point, it may be useful. It may indicate whether there is some ORANGE software which is causing the problem. I may give flashing the memory a go, but am unsure how to do this, or whether it would be a waste of time.
im tmobile and can not play divx or other,
you cant flash as there is no update of the f/w yet you could reformat the internal 8gb to fat or fat32 maybe but i would say yes or no
others have got it work via reconverting the file to mp4 no good we want divx for real no having to convert shit lol
I'd agree on the network provider being part of the issue! The manual reads,
"Watching your videos on TV Connect your KM900 to TV using the TV output cable.
NOTE: The TV output cable is
available for purchase separately.
WARNING: All formats
except 320x240 and 176x144
are compatible with playing the
video through a TV"
I can encode at 720x480 and it plays fine on the Arena (ORANGE network!), even if the phone is left playing the divx file whilst plugging in the tv-out cable the usual 'file not supported error' appears. Even though the phone display will output to my TV and show me navigating the UI.
Spoke to Orange Support and they advise they don't support the TV-OUT feature which to me ruffley translates to 'we've-hacked-that-feature-mate'
