Photo Orientation Problems are back
Hi,
A while ago I had issues with photo orientation problems that were resolved with a server update. Some problems have now returned now that i use a different camera. I think the problem can be summed up by describing the properties of two photos.
Photo 1: This photo displays correctly in connected both thumbnails and full size. The relevent file properties in google picasa show a
Resolution: 2816x2112
Orientation: Rotated 90 degrees
This was taken with a canon 800 IXUS 800 IS
Photo 2: This photo displays correctly in connected in the thumbnail view but is show the wrong way by 90 degrees in the full size view. The file propeties are
Resolution: 2112x2816
This was taken on a Canon IXUS 65
This photo does not have an Orientation property.
All these photos are shown correctly in other photo software. I think the problem stems from Canon dropping the 'Orientation' property from the embedded file data. However, Canon now indicate the orientation by the way the resolution is described, i.e. it is now Width x Height. This means the oritenation property is not needed.
Interestingly Connected picks this up for the thumbnail but not for the full size image. I would greatly appreciate it if this could be put right in a future release. As the alternative is a lot of manual rotation of photos everytime new photos are added.
Many thanks
Greenman
