Thanks for posting this workaround. Sadly I removed 0.89 from my PPC but I can always go back and re-install it now i know how to make it work.
I know a lot of people work on this because they are digital imaging enthusiasts - this is not something that people are paid lots to do. We rely on their enthusiasm, so I think we need to be patient for 0.90.
I'm not going to cop an attitude or get hostile. Thanks to the people who work on the mobile platforms, we can see divx material in all sorts of places.
cheers Bill
PS Is 'Sometime in April' as close a date as you have? If things slip into May can you post and let us know? Ta muchly
Due to a bug in 0.89, you will see the "expired" error if you open a file from the Windows Mobile File Explorer.
Normally, when you click on a ".divx" or ".avi" file in File Explorer, DMP will launch and play the video. However, it now displays the "expired" message and quits.
To work around this issue, launch DivX Mobile Player from the Windows Mobile Programs menu, then use the browser in DMP to choose the video you want to play. In other words, the file association may be broken, but DMP should work fine otherwise.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
DivX is dying. I can't believe I now have to set my PPC clock back and do a few other things in order to play DivX videos. And the mods have nothing more to say than an empty "We are extending the life of version 0.89 while we finish testing 0.90" promise. There has been no update. There has been no extended life version. It's still the same expired version. Download it, install it, it's automatically expired.
Upgrades should NOT be forced like this - especially when the upgrade isn't even available! >.<
I think I'm just going to find another format for my PPC videos.
Hi Peeps
My version 0.89 has stopped and won't play. I also downloaded it again this evening to find it was still expired.
How do I extend the life of 0.89 or has it already had its extra lease on life? If not please show me where to get the extended .89 because it is not the one on download at the moment.
Can I please ask you to post 0.90 as soon as possible as it is very sad not to be able to play any divx stuff on my IPAQ 210
Thanks
Bill
Um... no you didn't... I just re-downloaded the DivX Player (how annoying!!!) and reinstalled it only to have it say I can't use it.
What is this garbage anyway, free software that expires? What happens if it becomes abandonware?! No more DivX Player at all because the developers no longer maintain it, and everyone's locked out from using it?
A little annoyed here... I was hoping to watch a video on my PPC later. =\
edit: wow, this forum is arse-backwards. Why'd my reply come up in middle of two posts? o_O
We are extending the life of version 0.89 while we finish testing 0.90. Watch for a new version later in April.
