Note from DivXMobile: There is currently no version of DivX Mobile Player available for the Nokia 5800 however some users (Crazyguns) have managed to get partial functionality using the S60 3rd Edition version of DMP.

For DivX Mobile Player downloads, please go to http://labs.divx.com/MobileDownload.
You can try v1.01 for Symbian 5th Edition phones. This version has a touch screen interface. Or you can try v0.95 with the virtual keys program described above.

divx player for 5800

tenks

Divx for s60 v3 works on Nokia 5800

You actually can install Divx player on 5800 but it takes some fiddling around:
- sign and install Virtual Key application (it’s a free software – just google it)
- load key mapping that would allow you to use your 6 hardware keys on your phone as 2 soft keys and 4-way navigation and Virtual Key run in the background and activate whenever Divx is started
- run Divx and with a bit of practice you’ll be to play .avi movies
The only problem is that 700 mb movie file plays quite crappy as if there is not enough system resourses. Any comments on this from Divx?

help!

dude could u please help me in signing the virtual key thing.. i have been trying for hours!

Getting closer and closer each day. Technically wise is the 5800 capable of playing 700mb avi divx files or would it really really struggle?

Sounds like the common bitrate problem. See http://labs.divx.com/node/7774

Hi! All the problems of DivX player for Nokia 5800 is in controlling it, I mean, no options are aviable. Touchscreen doesn't works.

It would be cool if you'll write to divx player mobile some options, i mean ways of controlling what to do to "functions" menu. It will be the eaiser way to realise some of functionality for symbian s60 5th.

Try S60 3rd Edition

Please try DMP for Symbian S60 3rd Edition and let us know if it works. We have not tested any Symbian 9.5 phones yet.

It doesn't work

Hi,

I've tryed with both versions of DivX for Symbian and none of them worked on a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. It says: "Application not compatible with phone. Continue anyway?"

When I say "Cancel" it stops installation and nothing happens. If I say "Continue" then App is installed but when I open it, I can't use any option, nor watch an avi file.

¿Any idea?
Thanks a lot

No 5800

Bummer. Thanks for trying.

I'll add Nokia 5800 to the "unsupported" list on the download page.

If you'd like to send us your phone for a few weeks, we might be able to fix it. :)

That's a pity. :*(

It is a great shame that Nokia don't have the foresight to send the DivX development team new handsets like this so they can develop for them.

The 5800 XpressMusic will be undergoing a massive European launch over the next few weeks, is an obvious competitor to the iPhone (it's a touchscreen handset that outspecs it in most areas), and is being sold as a loss-leader to dramatically increase its presence (it has mid-to-high-entry smartphone features despite being sold at a low-entry price). Numerous UK cellphone companies have already announced availability of this handset on both PAYG and contract tariffs, and it's not even available here yet.

By simply being available for the 5800 XM, usage of DivX Mobile would skyrocket. Also worth noting is that the 5800 XM is the first handset to use Symbian S60 5th Edition, and by developing for it, you would also be prepared for the launch of the much hyped Nokia N97 in July 2009 because that will be the second handset to have this operating system.

I forgot to mention that the

I forgot to mention that the 5800 XM has a genuine 16:9 screen (it's designed to play and *record* widescreen movies), so it's a perfect candidate for DivX mobile!

5800

All very good points. Please write many letters to Nokia asking them to include DivX compatiblity on products like the 5800.

DivX Mobile Player is beta software and not the ideal solution. For DivX Certified phones see: http://www.divx.com/mobile/phones.php

Nokia 5800 show an

Nokia 5800 show an "Application not compatible with phone. Continue anyway?" whatever you try to install due to a check in the installation phase. You must ignore that error message an continue to have programs and themes perfectly installed.
I tried DMP on my 5800 and it install an run fine (it seems) but due to the lack of physical buttons and the not-touch-aware implementation of DMP for symbian it's impossible control the ui and play videos. That's all.

Same for me

Installed with "continue anyway", DMP opens and I can see 2 demo movie thumbnails, but as you say I cannot access them in any way (no buttons or touch). I loaded another divx movie and it also appeared within the DMP thumbnails with the others, but again I was unable to watch or do anything. Also there does not seem to be any file association within S60, this could be a workaround. Touch screens are the future tho, I hope you put out a tue S605th version.

Hi Dario, Thanks for the

Hi Dario,

Thanks for the explanation. What I've seen anyway is that the mobile doesn't recognize the movie as a file to be opend by DMP. I mean, if instead of using the player to open the file I try to open the file straigth from the browser it says "Unable to open. File type not supported". I don't know if it should work that way too, but looks like there was some problem during installation...

Again, thanks for all.

Yo

is there now any avi player who are compatible for Nokia 5800 XpressMusic or not ? would be nice if someone can enlighten me

5800 & DivX

(Too bad I could not get rid of this pic yet...)

Just guessing how much time will take for DivXLabs make a J2ME workable version...

I guess a N97/5800 will show up soon enough, just have a little patience!
